Nga Manu Recounts

The kiwis were big, fat and fast. Kiwis can outrun people and even some animals. Kiwis are nocturnal and come out at night. There was a lookout and a swan and a bush walk. There were lots of birds and there was a tuatara and eels too.

On Tuesday Room 14 and Room 13 went to Nga Manu when we got to there we met the rangers. One of them was called Mike.  We learnt about tuataras, kiwis and eels, even though we already knew most about it. We got there on the bus. The lookout was so high I felt sick.

It was fun at Nga Manu because the nocturnal house was cool. I saw a real live rat, hornet and kiwis.  Then we went up to the look out that was ten metres up.

On Tuesday, room  13 and 14 went to Nga Manu in Waikanae. When we got to school we had to put our bags on our chair and had a play then the bell rang and that’s when we left in a bus. We went to Nga Manu to see kiwis, tuatara, keas, the trees and many more kinds of birds. When we were at Nga Manu we had a snack and then the rangers asked questions to us.  Then we saw some eels, they were as long as our arms. We had morning tea then hopped in our groups and went around.  We went in the kiwi house where there were 2 kiwis in their burrow. There was a look out where you could see the whole of Nga Manu. There was a kea walk through and there were 2 keas that were flying over our heads.  They were green.  In my dad’s group was me, Dontae, Krystina, Thomas and Emily but she wasn’t at school. Nga Manu has this little land for tuataras.  The biggest tuatara was the size of my foot.  We saw a tui that some of us scared away.  A tuatara pooped on Nika’s hat.

On Tuesday, we went on the bus to Nga Manu. We went on the bus with Room 13 it took one and a half hours.  When we got there we got to go in this room and had one thing out of our lunchbox and some people came out and asked us some questions, then we answered the questions.  Then once he showed the tuatara to us, he showed us the real eels that were in the water.

On Tuesday Room 13 and 14 went to Nga Manu.  Me, Kazin and Jaime got to feed the eels.  It was fun.  I still remember what they eat.  They love little baby chicks.

Last Tuesday we went to Nga Manu.  We got to pat a real tuatara. When it got to Nika it pooed on his hat.  It was so funny that everyone laughed at him but the tuatara kept weeing. The tuatara was green and soft.  The kiwi was brown and they only have small wings and they can’t fly.  The next animal was an eel.  They were big eels.  They were hungry and they wanted their lunch.  Their lunch was so yucky that I almost spewed.

On the 27th of November, we went to Nga Manu. It was so awesome there. Jamie, Kazin and Braoli got to feed the really big, fat, black, ugly eels that kept on trying to get up and get the food. The food looked like spew. Then we slit up in groups. I went with Jamie, Jamie’s dad, Jaelyn and Iesha. The first thing we saw was a big white swam and it was bigger than Hendrix. Then later on we went to the look out. It was so awesome, but I ran up the stairs and I nearly slipped. When we went up I saw Nika’s Mum’s group. Then we went to the nocturnal house we saw a real kiwi. Then we went back and I stayed with Jamie’s dad and had a little snack. Jamie, Iesha and Jaelyn went back into the nocturnal house and they came back and we left. On the way back, everyone at the back of the bus fell asleep.

Athletics Day

Well, today we had an awesome day of athletics and fun! Luckily the weather held out for us and we managed to have a whole day with no rain.  We spent the morning in our year groups rotating around different activities like long jump, high jump, discus, shot put, and running.  Then after morning tea, we all came back for some AWA relay races.  These were heaps of fun and we all cheered on our team mates from the side line.  Well done to everyone who took part and scored points for your AWA.  It was a fantastic day!

Nga Manu

Yesterday (27 November), Room 14 and 13 went to Nga Manu in Waikanae.  We hopped on the bus first thing in the morning and headed on down.  While we were at Nga Manu, we were able to touch a real tuatara, feed the massive eels, and also see 2 live kiwis.  The rangers at Nga Manu told us that we knew so much about kiwi’s and tuatara’s, which made us feel pretty smart!  After a picnic lunch and a good wander around the park, we jumped back on the bus and headed back to school. We had such a fantastic day.
