Earthquakes

On the 26/9 at 9:26am, there was a nationwide earthquake drill, which over a million people from all around the country took part in. We have been practicing all week, as well as learning about earthquakes and earthquake safety.
We have learnt what we should do if there is an earthquake – STOP, DROP, COVER & HOLD!  We have also learnt about the sorts of things you might need after a big earthquake if there is no power or water for a few days, and made some posters about these.  We wrote some descriptive acrostic poems about earthquakes too.

Acrostic Poems

Extremely dangerous!
Already finished yet?
Really shaky
The scariest day of my life
Horrible
Quake shake
U are scared!
Am I alive?
Keep together and co-operate
Electric wires afterwards

Earthquakes can demolish buildings
After shocks
Real scary
Terrible
Hold on
Quiet – you’ll never know when it comes
Unsafe
Acid
Keep calm
Earthquakes are terrible

Electric power lines
After shocks
Rumbling
Try to get help
Help other people if they are injured
Quickly escape from a crushed building

Earthquakes are very dangerous
And rough like a tiger
Rough and strong like a boxing kangaroo
Tight and strong like a dragon
Hold on to your desks
Quickly drop, cover and hold
Unstoppable earthquakes are strong
Another baby one comes along
Kids shout out, “Earthquake! Earthquake!”
Eat dry food like nuts and water

Production Night

Last night was the Amazing Takaro School Production.  The kids were so excited and did an amazing job performing up on stage in front of all those people!  Here are some photos of us waiting backstage to go on stage.  They were so excited that we couldn’t get a still photo!

Thanks to all of you who came and supported Room 14.

Production Posters

We made these posters a couple of weeks ago to advertise the awesome Takaro School Production.
We needed to include:
-        The name of the production
-        Where, date & time
-        Ticket prices & where to buy them
-        Bright, bold colours
-        Easy to read font

Turbo Duffy Role Model Assembly

Yesterday morning, the Turbo’s came and visited us at Takaro for a Duffy Role Model assembly.  They told us about themselves and then we were able to ask them some questions.  Lastly, they handed out the Duffy books to each classroom. We were pretty excited!
